The paintings explore representations of power in the context of individuals and nation states, and reference the history of portrait painting and large-scale narrative works conceived for public spaces. Along with the drawings, these works aim to explore manifestations of social and ideological order and to raise questions relating to the control of space, personal and national boundaries.
